California enters a contract to make its own affordable insulin

California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday announced a partnership with drugmaker Civica Rx, to offer insulin at a dramatically lower cost, during a visit to a Kaiser Permanente warehouse storing thousands of insulin drug doses in Downey, Calif., on Saturday.

Under the $50 million deal, the state is partnering with drugmaker Civica to start making the new generic insulin later this year, Gov. Gavin Newsom said.
