Insurer groups slam Cruz’s ‘Consumer Freedom Option’

The health insurance industry is doubling down on its criticism of a controversial amendment to the Senate healthcare bill, calling it “simply unworkable in any form.” In a letter released late Friday, America’s Health Insurance Plans and the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association slammed Sen. Ted Cruz’s “Consumer Freedom Option” provision, which lets insurers sell bare-bones insurance plans alongside more comprehensive ones.
