Scripps Health shakeup eliminates CEO positions at hospitals as part of effort to cut $30M in costs

Scripps Health will no longer have a CEO at each of its hospitals in favor of a regional approach.
The reason for the restructuring: In 2016—for the first time in 15 years—the San Diego-based private, nonprofit, integrated health system did not achieve its operating budget. Although the system didn’t lose money and is still financially strong, system CEO Chris Van Gorder said in an internal memo to staff that the failure is a “sobering warning of harder times to come.”
