Here are three anesthesiologists who have made headlines in the last two weeks:
1. U.S. Anesthesia Partners has named Kurt Jones, MD, as its chief clinical officer. Dr. Jones has been with USAP for nine years, serving in a variety of capacities. In his new role, Dr. Jones will serve as a liaison between the group’s clinical and business operations, according to a June 10 news release. He will also partner closely with USAP’s clinical quality committee and advise the business development team.
2. In November, Raynaldo Ortiz, MD, a Dallas-based anesthesiologist, was sentenced to 190 years in prison after being convicted of injecting nerve-blocking agents and other drugs into IV bags at Baylor Scott & White Surgicare North Dallas. Now, the family of a patient who allegedly experienced a near-fatal cardiac event following a routine procedure at the surgery center is suing Baxter International, the manufacturer of the IV bags and the largest producer of IV bags in the U.S.
3. AdventHealth Lenexa (Kan.) City Center, a new hospital opening in July, has named Mark Brady, MD, as chief medical officer. Dr. Brady has worked as an anesthesiologist at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission in Merriam, Kan., for 27 years. As CMO of the new 96-bed hospital, he will oversee clinical operations and ensure physicians are represented in strategic decision making.
