41% of Americans believe Trump administration is bringing the ‘right change’ to tariffs

New tariffs levied against major U.S. trade partners including Mexico, Canada, China and the EU are affecting nearly all industries and consumers nationwide, and the medical device industry is no exception.

President Donald Trump’s tariff plan was expected to affect the prices of approximately 75% of medical devices marketed in the U.S., according to a Nov. 22, 2024, report from consulting firm GlobalData’s Medsource Database. Around 69% of U.S. marketed medical devices are manufactured solely outside of the U.S.

Despite the effect of tariffs nationwide, nearly half of Americans still support President Trump’s current tariff agenda.

According to an NBC News poll published March 16, 41% of Americans believe President Trump is bringing “the right change” to tariffs. About 38% of Americans believe he is bringing the wrong change, while 18% say he is not bringing any change at all.

In contrast, the majority of voters disapprove of President Trump’s job performance on the economy (54% disapprove, 44% approve) and how he’s handling inflation and the cost of living (55% disapprove, 42% approve).

Just 18% of American voters currently rate the economy as “excellent” or “good.” While his approval rating among Republicans is at about 90%; among Democrats, it sits at just 4%.
