Becker’s has reported on five hospital closures in April.
For ASCs, this might result in an influx in patients who have lost access to services through providers at hospitals or outpatient departments.
Here are the five hospital closures:
1. Orlando (Fla.) Health’s Rockledge Hospital, along with four associated hospital-based outpatient departments, officially shuttered on April 22. The shutdown resulted in 940 job losses and follows Orlando Health purchase of the 298-bed facility from Dallas-based Steward Health Care.
2. Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pa., is slated to close, according to Crozer Health. The shutdown will affect approximately 2,651 employees across two Crozer hospitals and additional facilities between April 25 and May 2.
3. Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park, Pa., operated by Crozer Health, was closed on April 26.
4. Mid Coast Medical Center Trinity (Texas) closed operations on April 25. The closure followed ongoing efforts to achieve financial and operational sustainability.
5. Heritage Valley Kennedy Hospital in Kennedy Township, Pa., is scheduled to shutter on June 30. The decision is attributed to reduced insurance reimbursements and declining patient volumes.
