Emory, Houston Healthcare merger finalized
Houston Healthcare, a community health system in Warner Robins, Ga., officially became part of Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare on June 1. The two organizations signed a letter of intent in August 2023 and reached a definitive agreement in February 2024. Emory announced on May 28 that the Georgia Attorney General’s office approved the merger, and both parties are now finalizing the remaining documentation.
UnityPoint Health to acquire MercyOne hospital
UnityPoint Health, based in West Des Moines, Iowa, has signed a letter of intent to acquire MercyOne Siouxland Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. The deal encompasses the medical center’s hospital facilities, physician practices and home care services. The acquisition is expected to close this summer, pending regulatory and closing conditions.
Atlantic General Hospital merges with TidalHealth
On May 1, Berlin, Md.-based Atlantic General Hospital completed its merger with Salisbury, Md.-based TidalHealth. The integration will provide Atlantic General with access to a unified electronic health record system through Epic, improve care coordination and access and offer capital funding for service expansion and workforce recruitment and retention.
OCH Regional Medical Center enters sales discussions
OCH Regional Medical Center, a 96-bed facility in Starkville, Miss., is in active discussions to sell to Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care.The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors voted on May 5 to designate Baptist as the preferred partner. A formal agreement is expected around July 31, pending due diligence and legal review.
Northwell, Nuvance merge into 28-hospital system
New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health and Danbury, Conn.-based Nuvance Health have completed their merger, creating an integrated health system that stretches from New York City to western Connecticut. The newly combined system boasts a $22.6 billion operating budget, 28 hospitals, more than 104,000 employees — including 22,000 nurses and 13,500 providers — along with over 1,050 ambulatory care sites and 73 urgent care centers.
