5 things to know for healthcare employers

Here are five updates related to the Federal Trade Commission, noncompete bans and more that healthcare employers should know, as reported by Becker’s since April 17:

  1. The Federal Trade Commission resolved an antitrust case against Welsh Carson, which was tied up in a lawsuit alongside its portfolio company, U.S. Anesthesia Partners.
  2. Nineteen states and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit against the federal government May 5 aiming to block the Trump administration’s large-scale restructuring of HHS.
  3. The Federal Trade Commission and the Justice Department issued a joint letter May 5 directing federal government agency leaders to develop a list of anticompetitive regulations that lessen competition, entrepreneurship and innovation.
  4. Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita formally opposed a proposed merger between Terre Haute’s only two hospitals, warning that the consolidation would create a “regional monopoly” and harm competition, care access and affordability in the Wabash Valley.
  5. A bipartisan bill in the Indiana state legislature banning noncompete agreements for physicians is moving toward being passed into law.
