Becker’s has reported on 71 ASCs opened or announced so far in 2025:
1. Downers Grove, Ill.-based Duly Health and Care earned a certificate of need to expand its ASC in Westmont, Ill. The ASC offers orthopedic, spine, pain management, podiatry, urology and general surgery services. The project is part of Duly’s new partnership with Brentwood, Tenn.-based Surgery Partners, which will oversee operations at the ASC.
2. Stafford, Conn.-based Johnson Memorial Hospital is opening a new ASC at its Enfield, Conn., campus. While the ASC was originally intended to be partially owned by local physicians, it will now be wholly owned by Livonia, Mich.-based Trinity Health of New England.
3. Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis Health cut the ribbon on its 48X Complex, one of the largest outpatient surgery centers in the nation.
4. Grand Blanc, Mich.-based McLaren Health Care plans to build a $53.6 million ambulatory care and orthopedic center in Bay City, Mich. The two-story, 50,000-square-foot facility will welcome its first patients in summer 2026, with the orthopedic center opening first. The ambulatory center will follow in 2027.
5. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health received approval for a new “outpatient-focused” hospital in Greenville, S.C. The 20-bed facility will be developed in partnership with local physicians and reflects the system’s strategic shift toward ambulatory care.
6. Flagstaff, Ariz.-based Northern Arizona Healthcare has begun the first phase of remodeling and expanding the Summit Center. This initial phase of construction is expected to conclude in late 2025.
7. Rochester, Minn.-based Olmsted Medical Center is opening a new ASC and clinic in Owatonna, Minn. Procedures including endoscopies, colonoscopies, biopsies and women’s health will be performed at the ASC, with orthopedics and ophthalmology services being added in 2026.
8 Springfield, Mo.-based CoxHealth and St. Louis-based St. Louis Children’s Hospital finalized a partnership agreement to expand pediatric care in Missouri.
9. Ann Arbor, Mich.-based University of Michigan Health-West and Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan partnered to develop an orthopedic-focused ASC.
10. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health started construction on a $145 million facility in Folsom, Calif. The 106,500-square-foot complex will include a same-day outpatient center, a cancer center and an urgent care clinic.
11. Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health opened a new ASC in College Station, Texas.
12. A state advisory board recommended a $1 billion investment in New York City-based SUNY Downstate Hospital that includes building an ASC.
13. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health started construction on the Sutter Advanced Neurosciences Complex at Mission Bernal in San Francisco. The $442 million, 129,000-square-foot facility will include neurology services, neurosurgery and an on-site ASC.
14. Paris, Tenn.-based Henry County Hospital reopened its newly remodeled ASC. West Tennessee Healthcare Henry County Surgery was closed for more than three years for remodeling and reopened with its first surgeries May 5.1
15. Mountain Home, Ark.-based Baxter Health opened a new ASC and imaging center in Harrison, Ark. The new facility will house Baxter Health Ambulatory Surgery Center and Baxter Health Imaging at Harrison, as well as a new Arkansas Orthopedics and Sports Medicine office.
16. Cardiology Consultants of Philadelphia partnered with Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine and other undisclosed parties to open a $10 million cardiology ASC in King of Prussia, Pa.
17. Slocum Orthopedics plans to construct a standalone ASC in Eugene, Ore. The organization will apply for construction permits in July.
18. Phoenix-based Banner Health broke ground on a medical campus, including a new ASC, in Scottsdale, Ariz. The 120,000-square-foot building will house the ASC, a family pharmacy, a cancer center, an urgent care facility, imaging capabilities and a range of primary and specialty services.
19. Phoenix-based OrthoArizona plans to open five new facilities and expand four existing locations by 2027. The company will open a 50,000-square-foot, $25 million flagship facility in Glendale, Ariz., which will include an ASC, in the second quarter of 2026.
20. The North Carolina Local Government Commission approved Duke University Health System’s funding request to build an ASC. The system plans to expand its campus in Cary, N.C., with facilities that include a new medical office building, a freestanding emergency department, an ASC and specialty clinics.
21. Hudson, N.Y.-based Columbia Memorial Health will add an ASC and cardiac care center at its Greene Medical Arts Center in Catskill, N.Y.
22. Two physicians affiliated with Buffalo (N.Y.) Spine & Sports Medicine have filed plans to open a standalone ASC in Amherst, N.Y.
23. Lestonnac Free Clinic has opened a new free-of-charge surgery center in Orange County, Calif. The facility will be the first free surgery center in the U.S. The clinic has been providing healthcare for uninsured patients since 1979, offering free primary care services.
24. Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health broke ground on a new outpatient surgical center in Leland, N.C.
25. The Empire Center for Special Surgery on Staten Island recently opened in New York.
26. Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on a $78 million outpatient surgery center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
27. Philadelphia-based Penn Medicine broke ground on a multispecialty outpatient center in Montgomeryville, Pa.
28. Portland, Maine-based InterMed, a physician-owned practice, is opening a medical office building and an ASC in Scarborough, Maine.
29. Charlotte, N.C.-based Novant Health broke ground on a medical office building that will offer a range of specialty services.
30. Morgantown-based West Virginia University Health System revealed more than $460 million in new capital projects across the state, one of which will be a $48 million outpatient center in Bridgeport, W.Va.
31. The Institute for Advanced Reconstruction opened a new facility in Red Bank, N.J.
32. New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery opened new ASCs in Paramus and Mahwah, both in New Jersey.
33. U.S. Orthopaedic Partners and Mid State Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center began construction on an ASC in Alexandria, La.
34. Orlando Health opened the Winter Garden (Fla.) Surgery Center.
35. Newport Beach, Calif.-based TriasMD is opening a DISC Surgery Center in California. The 12,000-square-foot facility will expand access to outpatient spine surgery, orthopedics and pain management.
36. Mobile, Ala.-based Infirmary Health Center broke ground on an ASC and medical office building in Malbis, Ala. The two-story facility will span 94,000 square feet. On top of an ASC, it will house an imaging center, linear accelerator, women’s imaging and physician offices.
37. Canton, Ill.-based Graham Health System earned approval from the state review board to build an ASC in Galesburg, Ill.
38. Baptist Health System opened a new surgery center in Madison, Miss.
39. A new surgery center in Ames, Iowa, earned a three-year accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, allowing the facility to begin scheduling patients.
40. O’Fallon, Ill.-based HSHS St. Elizabeth’s Hospital earned state approval to construct an outpatient surgical center and medical office building.
41. San Diego-based Scripps Health will build a “comprehensive” ambulatory facility in San Marcos, Calif., as the first phase of a long-awaited expansion project.
42. An $84 million medical project, including a new ASC being constructed by ThedaCare in Oshkosh, Wis., is set to open at the end of the year.
43. A groundbreaking for a medical office building and surgical center in Chillicothe, Ohio, is expected to take place in July. The Chillicothe Medical and Surgical Center will total 75,000 square feet. It will be located near Adena Regional Medical Center.
44. Compass Surgical Partners joined with the Orthopaedic Institute of North Texas and Lam Vascular & Associates to operate a new ASC in Frisco, Texas.
45. Swedish real estate developer Skanska signed a contract with Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health to convert a 60,000-square-foot office building into an ASC and specialty clinic space.
46. West Orange, N.J.-based RWJBarnabas’ Ambulatory Medical Pavilion will open to patients April 1.
47. Salisbury, Md.-based Tidal Health is moving forward with a plan to construct a medical campus in Millsboro, Del.
48. UCSF Health opened a $60 million, four-story outpatient center in Burlingame, Calif.
49. Ground was broken on a new medical office building and surgery center in Jeffersonville, Ind. The new medical office and surgical facility, which will be owned by CGKY Real Estate Holdings, will be part of the Gateway Office Park within the River Ridge Commerce Center. The Gateway Office Park development is being led by Louisville, Ky.-based Hollenbach Oakley.
50. An ASC in Southlake, Texas, was approved by city council 10 years after initial plans were announced.
51. Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Health plans to construct a flagship campus in Emeryville, Calif., that will feature an ambulatory care complex and a new medical center with 200 beds.
52. Atlanta-based Northside Hospital Orthopedic Institute will open two surgery centers in the next few months.
53. Compass Surgical Partners, an ASC development and management company, opened NYC Joint & Spine Center in Englewood, N.J.
54. Jacksonville, Fla.-based Baptist Health broke ground on a new medical office building and a second building that may be turned into a surgery center.
55. Richmond, Va.-based VCU Health purchased 8.5 acres of land in Chesterfield, Va., for what is expected to be a new outpatient surgery center.
56. An outpatient medical complex is moving forward in Gautier, Miss., without the support of county supervisors and nearby Singing River Health System.
57. Durham, N.C.-based Duke Health and Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC Health are collaborating on a $2 billion venture to build a 500-bed hospital, ASC, outpatient care center, medical office building and children’s behavioral health center
58. The construction of Munson Healthcare’s ASC in Cadillac, Mich., resumed following a work stop order. The work stop order, which was implemented Jan. 21 and removed Jan. 23, came after the site struggled to secure a well permit due to possible PFAS contamination.
59. Construction of Jamestown, Wis.-based Upper Mississippi Surgery Center has been completed and is close to opening.
60. Stony Brook Medicine in Commack, N.Y., will add a 19,500-square-foot ASC to its existing facility that will house four operating rooms, a dedicated recovery and prep space, and onsite sterile processing.
61. The Lighthouse Credit Union building in Portsmouth, N.H., will be converted into an ASC. The facility, formerly known as Northeast Credit Union, sold for $8.9 million in December. The building is now owned by development and real estate investment company Stonefish.
62. An ASC is being planned near an elementary school in Platte City, Mo. The Platte County board of education sold the building for the facility to PC Medical Partners in the fall for $762,300.
63. The Alabama State Health Planning and Development Agency on Jan. 15 voted to approve Southern Orthopedic Surgeons’ certificate-of-need request.
64. A Bon Secours medical office building in Chesterfield, Va., is expected to break ground in 2025 after several years of planning. Construction is expected to start on the 90,000-square-foot medical office building in the second quarter.
65. Winston Salem, N.C.-based Atrium Health Wake Forest (N.C.) Baptist received state approval to open a $25 million ASC.
66. A medical office development is coming to Gautier, Miss. The Legacy Park project will house a cardiac surgery center, an endoscopy center, a vascular center and medical offices.
67. Real estate development company Hammes recently completed the Surgery Center of Lee’s Summit (Mo.) on behalf of Surgery Ventures, powered by HCA Healthcare, and 16 physician partners.
68. Birmingham, Ala.-based Grandview Medical Center began construction on a $15 million urology surgery center.
69. Downers Grove, Ill.-based Advocate Health Care opened a new outpatient center in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
70. A judge in Connecticut dismissed a 2021 appeal by Day Kimball Healthcare against the state and Hartford HealthCare over approval of a Plainfield, Conn.-based ASC.
Officials with Day Kimball plan to appeal the decision, which was related to the approval of an HHC ASC. The judge ruled that Day Kimball lacked the legal standing to challenge the ASC because “the financial and competitive interests asserted by Day Kimball in this appeal are not within the zone of interests,” protected by state law.
71. Springfield, Mo.-based CoxHealth took the first steps toward building a pediatric outpatient center.
