West Virginia University’s Heart and Vascular Institute at WVU Medicine’s Berkeley Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va., has launched a new hybrid operating room, The Journal reported April 13.
The hybrid operating room is a “state-of-the-art” surgical space that integrates advanced imaging technologies with traditional surgical instruments under one roof, according to the report. The design eliminates the need for patients to be transferred between imaging and surgical areas, enabling a more seamless transition between open and minimally invasive procedures.
The advanced imaging capabilities within the OR allow for intraoperative guidance, dynamic decision-making and direct assessment of procedural success, creating an ideal setting for high-acuity patients.
The hybrid OR will primarily house a range of procedures within vascular surgery, thoracic surgery and pulmonology.
