Michael Groff, MD, a neurosurgeon, and his wife, Joy Saini, MD, a urogynecologist, their children and their respective partners, six people in total, were killed in a plane crash in upstate New York, the Times Herald-Record reported April 15.
The couple, their children and their children’s partners were traveling to Hudson, N.Y., on April 12 to observe the Passover holiday and celebrate their daughter’s birthday. According to the report, transportation officials said air traffic control lost contact with the plane after the pilot indicated they had missed their approach.
Dr. Groff was a renowned neurosurgeon and had recently accepted the role of executive medical director of neurosciences at Rochester (N.Y.) Regional Health. Prior to his employment at Rochester, he served as the division chief of neurosurgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for more than a decade.
