The CEO of Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare, parent company of ASC giant United Surgical Partners International, earned 406 times more than the median employee at the system in 2024, according to a proxy statement filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Here are five things to know:
1. In 2024, Tenet’s median employee earned an annual total compensation of $60,698.CEO Saum Sutaria, MD, received a total compensation package worth $24,661,553 for the year.
2. Tenet calculated the median employee by examining total gross wages for all individuals employed throughout calendar year 2024. For permanent employees who did not work the full year, wages were annualized.
3. As of Dec. 31, Tenet employed about 98,000 workers. In compliance with SEC guidelines, the system excluded approximately 4,129 employees based in the Philippines.
4. Following Dr. Sutaria, the company’s highest-paid executives were Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel Tom Arnst (earning $5,818,358) and Executive Vice President of Commercial Operations Lisa Foo (earning $5,161,510).
5. By comparison, Tenet’s CEO-to-median-worker pay ratio in 2023 was 305 to 1.
