Ophthalmology, cardiology and orthopedics were at the center of physician practice merger and acquisition activity in Q1, according to an April 16 blog post by Nashville, Tenn.-based law firm Bass, Berry & Sims.
Ophthalmology
- Oak Lawn, Ill.-based EyeSouth Partners announced a partnership with the Retina Institute of Illinois in Niles, in March.
- Greenville, S.C.-based Eye Health America partnered with Fort Myers, Fla.-based Quiqley Eye Specialists in February.
- In January, Hauppauge, N.Y.-based Sight Growth Partners expanded its reach into Connecticut and New York by acquiring Doctor & Associates of Westport, Conn., and Samburksy Eye & Esthetics in Johnson City, N.Y.
- The partnerships between Eye Health America and Quiqley Eye Specialists and EyeSouth Partners and the Retina Institute of Illinois, respectively, represent a growing momentum surrounding specialty retina care, according to the post.
Cardiology
- Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt Health acquired Tennova Healthcare-Clarksville’s cardiology practice from Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health System.
- Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Fla., added to its heart institute by acquiring a pediatric cardiology practice. In total, 14 pediatric cardiac physicians were added to the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in the transaction.
Orthopedics
- Charlotte, N.C.-based OrthoCarolina, one of the nation’s largest independently owned orthopedic practices, sold its physical therapy business. The deal resulted in PT Solutions Physical Therapy partnering with Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health to acquire OrthoCarolina’s physical therapy practice for an undisclosed amount, according to the blog post.
- New York City-based NYU Langone Health and NYU Langone Orthopedics announced the acquisition of Rothman Orthopaedics of Greater New York, and in New York City, which expanded the system’s orthopedic care in the city.
