5 cardiologists in the headlines

Here are five cardiologists in recent headlines, as reported by Becker’s:

1. Kipp Slicker, DO, spearheaded the opening of a new cardiology center in Cedartown, Ga., through Rome, Ga.-based AdventHealth Redmond. The new office is the seventh cardiology practice in AdventHealth’s heart care network.

2. NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn in New York City appointed its first chief of cardiac surgery. Noritsugu Naito, MD, will serve as the hospital’s inaugural chief of cardiac surgery and has been appointed clinical associate professor in the department of cardiothoracic surgery at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

3. Christopher Kramer, MD, was named president of the American College of Cardiology. Having assumed the role at the end of March, he now leads the cardiovascular organization, which currently has nearly 60,000 members.

4. Norman Wang, MD, a cardiologist, lost his lawsuit against the University of Pittsburgh, UPMC, three physicians and a physicians’ group. District Judge Marilyn Horan found that Dr. Wang failed to prove his claims of discrimination against the university and health system in a case that began in December 2020.

5. Shailendra Singh, MD, performed the first procedure in the U.S. using GE Healthcare’s 3DStent software. The software allows cardiologists to quickly view arteries and gather information during a procedure, allowing for a more thorough assessment.
