Here are three major hospital deals and mergers announced or finalized since May 1 that ASCs need to know:

1. OCH Regional Medical Center explores sale to Baptist Memorial Health Care

OCH Regional Medical Center, a 96-bed facility in Starkville, Miss., is moving toward a potential sale to Memphis, Tenn.-based Baptist Memorial Health Care. On May 5, the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors voted to designate Baptist as the hospital’s preferred partner. Although a formal agreement is anticipated by July 31, the deal is still subject to due diligence and legal review, and has not been finalized, according to a statement from OCH.

2. Northwell Health and Nuvance Health complete merger

New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell Health and Danbury, Conn.-based Nuvance Health have officially merged, forming a comprehensive regional health system that stretches from New York City to western Connecticut. The newly integrated organization, nearly a decade in the making according to Northwell President and CEO Michael Dowling, boasts a $22.6 billion operating budget, 28 hospitals, more than 104,000 employees, including 22,000 nurses and 13,500 providers, and a network of over 1,050 ambulatory care sites and 73 urgent care centers.

3. Atlantic General Hospital to merge with TidalHealth

Berlin, Md.-based Atlantic General Hospital has signed a definitive agreement to merge with Salisbury, Md.-based TidalHealth. According to a May 1 news release from TidalHealth, the organizations will implement a structured integration plan to ensure a seamless transition. Atlantic General will retain its current branding in the near term, and no immediate staffing changes are expected. The merger will allow Atlantic General to access TidalHealth’s integrated Epic EHR system, improve service coordination and care access, and secure capital funding to expand services and support recruitment and retention efforts.
