Gillette, Wyo.-based Powder River Surgery Center and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming have partnered to launch a bundled payment program for total knee replacements, the organizations announced in a May 20 news release shared with Becker’s.
The program, which began May 1, allows patients to pay one simplified, all-inclusive fee for care. According to the release, the model is designed to promote care coordination, enhance quality, reduce unexpected costs, and provide patients with greater financial transparency and peace of mind.
The bundled payment includes surgeon and assistant surgeon fees, ASC facility charges, anesthesia services, radiology and laboratory testing, pre- and postoperative office visits and up to 18 physical therapy sessions.
“This program is a major step forward for value-based care in Wyoming,” Linda Bedwell, director of Powder River Surgery Center, said in the release. “By working directly with BCBSWY, we’re able to offer our patients a simplified, transparent, and high-quality surgical experience without the financial surprises that often accompany traditional billing models.”
