Ten specialties emerged as those physicians were least likely to leave, according to the American Medical Association’s “Organizational Biopsy” survey, published May 28.
The national physician comparison report includes responses from nearly 18,000 physicians across more than 100 health systems in 43 states. It reflects 2024 trends in job satisfaction, stress, burnout, intent to leave an organization, feeling valued and weekly work hours.
Here are the 10 specialties with the lowest reported intent to leave:
- Dermatology: 19.9%
- Infectious diseases: 23.3%
- Pediatrics: 26.9%
- Internal medicine: 27.7%
- Pathology: 28.1%
- Neurology: 29.1%
- Hospitalist medicine: 30.1%
- Family medicine: 30.3%
- Emergency medicine: 30.6%
- Obstetrics and gynecology: 30.6%
