Here are three hospitals that closed in 1 month, according to Becker’s:
1. Mercyhealth has filed with the state of Illinois for a “temporary suspension of services” at Javon Bea Hospital–Rockton in Rockford. A health system spokesperson confirmed the closure to Becker’s. The hospital ceased operations at 6 a.m. on July 1, according to NBC affiliate WREX.com
Although the hospital building is now closed, the physician clinic adjacent to the campus will remain open. In recent years, services at the facility have been gradually scaled back, eliminated, or consolidated with other Mercyhealth sites.
2. St. Luke’s Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis is scheduled to close on August 1, a hospital spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s. In a statement, spokesperson Kelly Webb-Little said the decision followed a comprehensive evaluation of facility occupancy, industry trends, and the health system’s long-term strategic priorities.
3. Stilwell (Okla.) Memorial Hospital and its affiliated clinic are also set to shut their doors, according to a June 21 report from KTUL. While the hospital’s emergency department remains open for now, an employee told Becker’s they were uncertain about the exact timing of a full closure. The hospital, an acute care facility with a 5-star rating from CMS, as noted on its Facebook page, is expected to close on June 27, with the clinic following 30 days later.
