AANA bestows political director of the year award

The American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology has honored Stacey Whittington, MSNA, CRNA, with its annual federal political director of the year award.

The Daniel D. Vigness Federal Political Director of the Year Award was first established in 2001 and is awarded to a CRNA leader who “has made a significant contribution to the advancement of the national healthcare agenda of CRNAs by coordinating grassroots involvement in their state and in the federal political process,” according to an April 28 news release.

Ms. Whittington is affiliated with True North Anesthesia and Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine.

She serves on the Maine Association of Nurse Anesthesiologists Board, previously working as secretary, president-elect, president and board member. Since 2016, she has served as the federal political director.

She focuses on working directly with federal legislators to increase their knowledge of the roles of CRNAs, leading discussions with legislators and the general public.

Most recently, her efforts led Maine’s U.S. Representatives, Jared Golden and Chellie Pingree to sign AANA’s letter in support of full-practice authority for CRNAs within VA healthcare facilities.
