Leopoldo V. Rodriguez, MD, is an attending anesthesiologist and perioperative medicine consultant at the Medical University of South Carolina’s Lancaster Medical Center, with more than 20 years of experience shaping ambulatory anesthesia programs across the U.S. and abroad.
Dr. Rodriguez’s leadership philosophy centers on aligning clinical excellence with system performance.
“If we don’t measure what matters, we can’t improve it,” he said.
That principle has guided his approach to quality metrics, patient safety and performance improvement in ASC settings.
He has held numerous high-impact roles, including president of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia =, president of the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, chair of the ASA Committee on Ambulatory Surgical Care and officer of the General Assembly of the International Association for Ambulatory Surgery. He has also served as assistant national medical director of ambulatory anesthesiology at AmSurg, as well as medical director and department chair at hospitals and ASCs in Colorado and Florida.
Dr. Rodriguez earned his medical degree from the Universidad Central de Venezuela and completed his anesthesiology residency at Vanderbilt University, where he served as chief resident. He later earned an MBA from the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Isenberg School of Management and was inducted into the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
A bilingual clinician and educator, Dr. Rodriguez has taught at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and NOVA Southeastern University, and frequently publishes on regional anesthesia, quality benchmarking and ASC optimization.
