Priyantha Ranaweera, MD, is a Harvard-trained interventional cardiologist and medical director of Manhattan Specialists Center in Manhattan, Kan. With over 20 years of global medical experience, Dr. Ranaweera specializes in peripheral interventions, heart catheterizations and advanced device implantation.
Reflecting on his leadership journey, Dr. Ranaweera emphasizes the power of persistence.
“Transformational programs don’t happen overnight. You need the clinical vision — and the patience — to align systems, train teams and earn trust in the community,” he said.
That mindset helped him lead the successful launch of cardiac catheterization and acute myocardial infarction intervention programs during his tenure as medical director of cardiology at Mercy Regional Health Center.
Dr. Ranaweera’s clinical focus spans tricuspid valve disease, mitral valve regurgitation and coronary artery disease. He is known regionally for expanding access to advanced cardiac care, including via telehealth, and continues to serve patients across multiple sites, including Ascension Via Christi Hospital Manhattan, Stormont Vail Health Flint Hills and Clay County Medical Center.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Kelaniya Faculty of Medicine and completed advanced training in internal medicine, cardiology and CT coronary angiography in Germany, New Zealand and Australia. Dr. Ranaweera is board-certified and committed to increasing access to interventional cardiology services in both rural and suburban Kansas communities.
Dr. Ranaweera is speaking at Becker’s 31st Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, set for Oct. 16-18 at the Swissotel Chicago. To view the agenda and register, click here. ASC owners and operators can apply for a complimentary reviewer badge here.
