Sapna Thomas, MD, is a board-certified gastroenterologist and medical director of North Ridgeville Endoscopy, part of University Hospitals. She also serves as medical director for the West Region of the UH Digestive Health Institute, where she has spent her entire post-residency career advancing access, continuity and quality in GI care.
Dr. Thomas believes that leadership in medicine stems from trust and presence.
“Showing up consistently — whether for patients, colleagues or system initiatives — builds the kind of trust that drives long-term progress,” she said.
That commitment has defined her 26-year tenure at UH, where she was recently recognized by CEO Cliff Megerian, MD, for her efforts in optimizing gastroenterologist coverage schedules across multiple UH hospitals.
At UH North Ridgeville Health Center and its affiliated sites — including UH Elyria, UH Parma and UH St. John medical centers — Dr. Thomas delivers high-quality GI care with a focus on inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome and preventive screenings. She is particularly dedicated to improving the endoscopy experience through greater patient education, respect for privacy, and empathetic listening.
Dr. Thomas earned her medical degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Medicine and completed her internal medicine residency at UH Cleveland Medical Center. Inspired early on by her father’s career in physical medicine and rehabilitation, she has shaped her own path by embracing flexible, team-driven care models within the University Hospitals system.
Dr. Thomas is speaking at Becker’s 31st Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, set for Oct. 16-18 at the Swissotel Chicago. To view the agenda and register, click here. ASC owners and operators can apply for a complimentary reviewer badge here.
