Joe Hernandez has been appointed CEO of HCA Healthcare’s Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas, effective Jan. 1.

As 2025 approaches, here are the 17 hospital and health system CFOs and assistant CFOs that Becker’s reported on in December:

Douglas Ziedonis, MD, former CEO of UNM Health System, has declined to take a faculty position at the academic system, the Albuquerque Journal reported Dec. 30. 

Of the dozens of CEO retirements Becker’s reported on in 2024, five executives planned their final days in December.

Johnson City, Tenn.-based Ballad Health has tapped Jesse Sulzer, MD, PhD, as chief medical officer for three hospitals in Virginia. 

Middleburg Heights, Ohio-based Southwest General Health Center has named Kristen Shoup as executive director of revenue cycle, according to a post on her LinkedIn page. 

Kory Browning has been named CEO of Northwest Medical Center-Springdale (Ark.), effective Jan. 20.

Dana Anderson, MSN, RN, was named COO of Mosaic Medical Center-Maryville (Mo.), effective Feb. 1.

David Schreiner, PhD, president and CEO of Dixon, Ill.-based Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, will retire on Dec. 31.
