Police say a 94-year-old man shot and killed his wife May 22 at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters (Mo.) Hospital, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. 

Baptist Nassau, part of Jacksonville, Fla.-based Baptist Health, will temporarily pause its maternity services May 31.

Within the span of a few weeks, two Wyoming hospitals will cut labor and delivery services due to staff shortages and increased costs from employing travel nurses, Wyoming Public Media reported May 20.

Pueblo, Colo.-based Parkview Health System will close its 25-bed inpatient adult psychiatric unit at Parkview Medical Center because of a decline in patients, The Pueblo Chieftain reported May 17.

New Orleans-based Ochsner Health will close its labor and delivery department at Ochsner Medical Center in Bay St. Louis, Miss., at the end of May, the Sun Herald reported May 17. 

As hospitals across the U.S. face workforce shortages, several have had to halt services. 

Six hospitals and health systems have announced the closure of obstetric services since March 16; several of those moves are due to staffing challenges:

Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins, Wyo., will end its labor and delivery services June 15, Wyoming Public Radio reported May 12.
