Firefighters responded to a May 17 structural fire at Harman Eye Surgery Center in Forest, Va., and the cause of the fire has now been identified.
An investigation by the Forest Volunteer Fire Department determined electrical issues within the building sparked the blaze, according to a May 19 report from ABC 13 News.
The fire originated from a power strip and nearly engulfed the entire building.
Damage to the facility is expected to cost $500,000, but could be higher due to damaged medical equipment.
“Over the weekend, our Harman Eye Center Surgery Center sustained damage from a structural fire. We’re incredibly grateful to share that no injuries were reported,” the surgery center wrote in a May 19 update on Facebook. “Our team is actively working to reschedule all upcoming surgeries and appointments while we move forward with plans to rebuild the surgical center and continue providing exceptional care to our patients.”
