Dr. Lawrence Kim begins term as AGA Institute president

Lawrence Kim, MD, has begun his term as 120th president of the American Gastroenterological Association Institute.

Dr. Kim is a partner at South Denver Gastroenterology, a 27-physician independent GI practice, according to a May 28 news release sent to Becker’s.

During his time with South Denver Gastroenterology, Dr. Kim has developed a part-time partnership model for the system, helped to recruit more female gastroenterologists, who now comprise one-third of the practice, incorporated endoscopic ultrasound into the practice’s advanced endoscopy service line, initiated a clinical research program, spearheaded the creation of a joint venture in gastrointestinal pathology and helped establish South Denver Gastroenterology as one of the founding groups of the Digestive Health Physicians Association, the first organization focused on advocacy for independent gastroenterology practices.

In his role as president of the AGA Institute, Dr. Kim will focus on improving inclusivity in the organization for all GI specialists, securing the viability of gastroenterology research and championing the next generation of leaders in the specialty.

Dr. Kim has been with the AGA for 30 years in a volunteer capacity. In November, he also began his second term as secretary and treasurer of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, the largest ambulatory healthcare accreditor. He joined the AAAHC Board of Directors in 2004 and has served in numerous roles for this organization including as surveyor, committee chair and governing council member.
