FDA clears first automated endoscope cleaning system

Nanosonics has received FDA De Novo clearance for its new Coris system, a technology designed to improve the cleaning of flexible endoscopes and reduce infection risk, according to a March 20 news release from the company.

Coris uses an automated cleaning process to clean the internal channels of endoscopes, such as colonoscopes, where biofilm and bacteria can build up, according to the release.

While the initial clearance covers colonoscopes, Nanosonics plans to expand Coris to include all major types of flexible endoscopes.

The company will start with a limited rollout in select hospitals before launching more broadly.
