Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins cardiologist dies at 87

Francis Cost, MD, of Hagerstown, Md., a renowned cardiologist, died April 7, according to an obituary published by Herland-Mail Media April 9. 

Dr. Howard earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore. He went on to complete an internship at Mercy Hospital, also in Baltimore, and a medical residency at the Public Health Hospital in New York City and the University Hospital in Baltimore. 

He then completed a cardiovascular fellowship at the University Hospital in Baltimore and a pulmonary fellowship at Temple University in Philadelphia. He also completed a nuclear cardiology fellowship at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Hospital and a fellowship in intensive care medicine at Johns Hopkins. 

Dr. Howard was the recipient of an NIH research grant at Moffitt Hospital in San Francisco, where he practiced nuclear cardiology. He later practiced at Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
