Meet the power players in outpatient cardiology

As cardiology continues its outpatient migration, several organizations have made notable acquisitions and developments in their cardiology focus.

HCA Healthcare (Nashville, Tenn.)

HCA continues to invest capital into the cardiology sector, as it saw growth from both inpatient and outpatient cardiac surgeries during the first quarter of 2025. The company’s outpatient expansion, including in catheterization labs and ASCs, is ongoing but requires relatively smaller capital commitments, CEO Sam Hazen said in a recent earnings call

SCA Health (Deerfield, Ill.)

Optum’s ASC arm, Deerfield, Ill.-based SCA Health, acquired at least two cardiovascular providers in 2023, National Cardiovascular Partners and Pivotal Healthcare. National Cardiovascular Partners comprises 21 cardiac catheterization and vascular labs. The platform was previously owned by Fresenius Medical Care. Pivotal Healthcare, based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., comprises 11 affiliate practices and 14 locations.

Cardiovascular Logistics
The national cardiovascular platform entered into a partnership with Cardiology Consultants of Philadelphia, the largest independent cardiology practice in the U.S., in April, growing its network of cardiology providers to more than 400 and more than 80 practice locations.
