Kristen Carotenuto, of Stamford, Conn., has pleaded guilty to tampering with vials of hydromorphone and fentanyl at an ASC where she worked as a nurse.
According to an April 7 news release by the Department of Justice, in December 2024 Ms. Carotenuto removed several vials, each containing hydromorphone or fentanyl, from a secure storage area at the surgery clinic where she was employed. She then took the vials home and used the drugs, refilling the vials with either saline or water and returned the tampered vials to the storage area in a location where they could be distributed for patient use.
She pleaded guilty to tampering with a consumer product, which carries a maximum term of 10 years in prison. Ms. Carenuto’s sentencing is scheduled for June 30.
