Physician pay in 2025’s worst states for healthcare

The average annual salary for physicians is $302,540 in Mississippi, the worst-ranked state for healthcare in 2025.

U.S. News & World Report ranked all 50 states across 71 metrics in eight categories. The rankings were published May 6.

Compensation data for physicians is from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
