RWJBarnabas Health treats telenovela star

Telenovela star Clara Montero has received care for atrial fibrillation at Jersey City (N.J.) Medical Center, an affiliate of RWJBarnabas Health.

Ms. Montero, known for her television, theatre and movie career, sought treatment with the center for her irregular heartbeat, which can lead to sudden cardiac arrest, stroke or even heart failure, according to a March 19 press release.

Ms. Montero suffered from afib for 30 years and was hospitalized 11 times before seeking care at Jersey City.

In August, surgeons at the medical center performed an atrioventricular node ablation and implanted a pacemaker in Ms. Montero, who has not suffered a hospital event since.

She is undergoing follow-up care with her physicians Kimberly Skelding, MD, division chief of cardiovascular services at Jersey City and David Dobesh, MD, cardiologist at Jersey City.
