The 10 top-paying cities for physician assistants

Physician assistants in Salinas, Calif., have the highest average annual salary of any metropolitan area in the U.S. for the profession, making $206,750 per year.

Nine out of the 10 metropolitan areas where physician assistants earn the most are in California. 

Across the U.S., physician assistants earn an average of $136,900 each year. 

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released updated compensation data for physician assistants April 2 to reflect 2024 information. 

Here are the 10 metropolitan areas where physician assistants have the highest mean annual salary:

  1. Salinas, Calif.: $206,750
  2. San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, Calif.: $198,370
  3. Napa, Calif.: $181,030
  4. Vallejo, Calif.: $173,400
  5. Modesto, Calif.: $168,170
  6. Santa Rosa-Petaluma, Calif.: $168,160
  7. San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont, Calif.: $167,710
  8. Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, Wash.: $163,000
  9. Yuba City, Calif.: $162,330
  10. Bakersfield-Delano, Calif.: $161,210
