The 5 states where PAs earn the most, least

Physician assistants in California, the state where PAs have the highest average annual salary, earn $68,100 more than PAs in Arkansas, the state where PAs have the lowest annual salary.

In California, PAs earn over $6,000 more per year than in Washington, the state with the second highest average annual salary for PAs. 

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released updated salary information for physician assistants to reflect 2024 information on April 2. 

Here are the top five highest and lowest-paying states for physician assistants:

Top five:

  1. California: $161,980
  2. Washington: $156,060
  3. Oregon: $152,160
  4. New York: $151,280
  5. New Jersey: $149,160

Bottom five:

  1. Arkansas: $93,880
  2. Mississippi: $98,270
  3. Alabama: $105,970
  4. Georgia: $108,270
  5. Kentucky: $110,150
