The changes in cardiologist compensation over 4 years

The average annual salary for cardiologists has increased in each of the past four years, reaching $432,490.

Since 2021, cardiologists’ compensation has jumped more than 22%.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released updated compensation data April 2 to reflect 2024 information, the latest available. 

Here is how the average annual wage and average hourly wage have changed for cardiologists from 2021 to 2024, along with the state where cardiologists earned the most each year. 

2021

Mean annual wage: $353,970

Mean hourly wage: $170.18

Highest-paying state: Maryland, annual mean wage of $362,090

2022

Mean annual wage: $421,330, year-over-year increase of $67,360

Mean hourly wage: $202.56

Highest-paying state: Idaho, annual mean wage of $521,690

2023

Mean annual wage: $423,250, year-over-year increase of $1,920

Mean hourly wage: $203.49

Highest-paying state: Minnesota, annual mean wage of $523,550

2024

Mean annual wage: $432,490, year-over-year increase of $9,240

Mean hourly wage: $207.93

Highest-paying state: Indiana, annual mean wage of $529,020
