Becker’s has reported on at least 12 physician practice and ASC closures so far in 2025.
Reasons for closure range from staffing issues to the soaring cost of rent and other operational expenses. Here are seven physician practices that have closed this year and the reasons behind their closures
1. Bond Eye Associates (Peoria, Ill.) — The practice is closing June 27, citing financial difficulties, including rising operational costs and challenges with insurance reimbursements.
2. The Hand Center of Western Massachusetts (Longmeadow) — The center closed June 1 due to sudden, unexpected staffing issues that disrupted operations.
3. Anchor Medical Associates (Providence, R.I.) — All three offices will close by June 30, citing multiple challenges hiring replacements for retired physicians, as well as rising operational costs and declining reimbursement rates.
4. Paragon Women’s Center (Centerville, Ohio) — OB-GYN Lisa Egbert, MD, is closing her practice due to financial constraints largely driven by reimbursement challenges.
5. Alabama Orthopaedic Clinic (Mobile, Ala.) — The clinic closed in April due to a combination of retiring physicians, recruitment challenges in subspecialties, rising costs and reimbursement cuts, despite strong patient volumes.
6. Garden State Orthopedics (Hoboken, N.J.) — The orthopedic practice, which specialized in sports medicine, closed Jan. 27 after more than 30 years. Its lease expired and it was unable to find a comparable location.
7. Pinehurst Radiology Associates (Pinehurst, N.C.) — The group closed “for the foreseeable future” due to a cyberattack.
