The head of China’s Covid response efforts, said the country is “facing a new situation” as it tackles a highly infectious but less deadly variant of the virus.
There is no medical or scientific evidence suggesting Covid vaccines affect blood, and New Zealand’s health service asked courts for guardianship over the six-month old to okay the procedure.
Officials in Beijing did not directly acknowledge the widespread civil unrest over its harsh Covid policies but vowed to “relentlessly crack down” and “maintain overall social stability.”
China was one of the only countries in the world still pushing to eliminate Covid-19, an approach that relied on strict lockdowns and widespread testing and has sparked widespread protests across the country.
